Watching movies in Spanish is one of the most popular ways for Spanish beginners to practice their Spanish. The best way to use Spanish films to learn this beautiful language is to progress from easy to difficult films, and you will find many great examples in this list of my top 10 films in Spanish.

This is my collection of Spanish films, which I recommend you to look at – these are for advanced-level speakers as they contain complex plots and the actors talk fast. They are in no particular order, and all have a high content of speech – it does not really make sense to watch a movie without speaking Spanish, after all! All the movies are available on DVD, including the Amazon site, but some may also be available online. You can get your hands on more great Spanish films at the Buenos Aires International Film Festival. I hope you like them:

1. Pan’s Labyrinth (El Laberinto del Fauno)
Guillermo Del Toro proficiently combines the genres of fantasy, historical fiction and horror in this 2006-favorite.

2. Like Water for Chocolate (Como agua por chocolate)
An eye-pleasing story of a woman growing up in the dysfunctional environment of the rural families in Mexico, this film was nominated for a Golden Globe for the best foreign film of 1993. It is based on the book by Laura Esquivel.

3. Y Tu Mama Tambien -And Your Mother Too
This is a fantastic film that follows three young Mexicans on the road trip of a lifetime. Not for the young ones, but a fascinating insight into Mexican culture.

4. The Motorcycle Diaries (Diario de motocicleta)
This 2004 film tells the story of the young Che Guevara, who went on a motorcycle trip in South America with a close friend, Alberto Granado, in the early 1950s, while taking a sabbatical from medical school in Argentina. The film is based on the memories of this trip. It stars Mexican actor Gael García Bernal. Guevara is the Cuban revolutionary whose persona is well known all throughout Latin America.

5. Talk to Her (Hable con Ella)
In this film, written and directed by Spanish director Pedro Almodovar, the two men share an unusual friendship when their girlfriends are in Comas.

6. Maria Full of Grace (Maria, llena eres de gracia)
It is a 2004 HBO Films release story of the daughter of 17-year-old Colombian girl, who turns into a drug mule, transporting drugs into the United States.

7. Bad Education (La Mala educación)
Filmed in the style of black cinema, Bad Education tells the story of two Catholic school children who grew up in Spain in the 1960′s. The cildren, Ignacio and Enrique, fall in love under the care of a zealous priest, Father Manolo. The story winds its way through the next two decades and includes imprecisely autobiographical essentials related to Almodóvar.

8. Amores Perros
A 2000 film Directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu tells three separate stories that are tied together by a common occurrence in Mexico City when they are all involved in a car accident. Starring Gael Garcia Bernal is, Vanessa Bauche, Alvaro Guerrero, Goya Toledo, and Emilio Echevarria.

The growth in the worldwide population of Spanish speakers has brought about an increasing awareness of and interest in Spanish culture which in turn has sparked a huge interest in learning the Spanish language. There are countless numbers of books, cds and video tutorials for the learner to choose from ranging in price from bargain-basement to break the bank figures.

Learning Spanish as a second language is never the easiest thing to do and it seems that it becomes more difficult the older you get (this may be down to adult responsibilities making it more difficult to find time to study rather than a retention problem). And the frustration is often increased when after studying for months on end you try out your new language with a native Spanish speaker and find you do not understand anything they say and, perhaps worse still, they have difficulty in understanding you.

The problem is that even the best designed courses by definition have to be structured and follow a pattern of introducing basic vocabulary and the dreaded grammar and then building on these foundation blocks. The end result is that the finished product is often going to be somewhat stilted and predictable. The reality is that, as with any language, the vast majority of Spanish speakers do not speak in a precise, measured fashion and do not expect to hear other people speaking in that manner.

To learn Spanish properly, you must be exposed to it in a natural fashion and one of the better ways to get this exposure today is by learning Spanish from watching movies. This works brilliantly on so many levels. Virtually every modern DVD will have the option to select the spoken language and also select the sub-title language.

So to build vocabulary select one of your favorite movies and watch it with your finger on the pause button while the Spanish subtitles are displayed. You will be learning up-to-date Spanish and loads of everyday terms and usages that the books never cover. Then watch the movie with spoken Spanish and English subtitles allowing you to practice your dialogue. Finally watch with language and subtitles in Spanish. You will be amazed at how quickly you will pick up phrases and ideas without having to worry about grammar – just the way you learned your first language.

There is no doubt that learning Spanish by watching Spanish movies is an enjoyable and stimulating way to learn the language, but you do need to be a little cautious. The quality of subtitles can vary a lot. Sometimes the subtitles do not reflect exactly what is being spoken and as such may misguide you on the exact meaning of words. This is particularly true when there are long passages of dialogue spoken rapidly.

If you are listening to the Spanish sound on a movie that was recorded in English, the dubbing director can play fast and loose with the script to make the sound match the lip-movements. So you should expand your horizons and get movies that were recorded in Spanish. There will be no dubbing distortion and you may just step into a wonderful movie world you never knew existed. Buen suerte!!

The art of motion picture making within the nation of Spain by Spanish filmmakers is known as the ”Spanish Cinema” . Spanish cinema in recent years has achieved a high level of recognition due to its creative and technical excellence. Luis Bunuel the great filmmaker was the first to receive universal recognition in the history of Spanish Cinema. However today many actors like Fernando Ray and Penelope Cruz have achieved significant recognition outside Spain.

Penelope Cruz Sanchez better known as Penelope Cruz is a leading Spanish actress. Born on April 20 1974 , Penelope was signed by an agent when she was merely fifteen and she made her acting debut at the age of sixteen on television and her feature film debut later with Jamon in 1992 , to critical acclaim.

Initially however Cruz had no ambition of becoming an actress and focused on dancing, having studied classical ballet for nine years at the Spainish National Conservatory. She became a fan of movies when she was ten . She began doing casting calls for an agent and was rejected many times . However finally in 1989 , fifteen year old Cruz made her debut in a music video for a Spanish Pop group . Between 1990 and 1997 she had hosted a Spanish Television channel talk show , acted in an episode of an erotic French series Series Rose where she appeared totally naked , made her feature film debut in Jamon where she portrayed a young woman expecting to deliver her first baby with a guy whose mother does not approve of her relationship and attempts to sabotage it.

According to the People Magazine, Cruz became a major sex symbol after appearing topless in the film . The film received favorable reviews and Cruz for her performance was nominated for a Spanish Actors Union Newcomer Award and a Goya Award for the best actress. In the following years Cruz bagged roles in a number of films like the Spanish comedy Love can Seriously Damage your Health , Spanish Sci-fi drama Open Your Eyes, Don juan , The Girl of your Dreams and many more .

The Year 2001 proved to be a turning point when Cruz starred in the films Blow and Vanilla Star. Her performance was very well received by critics with BBC film critics complementing her performance. Another turning point in her career was in 2006 when she became the spokes model for the French beauty Company L’Oreal to promote beauty products such as hair dye and mascara. She received $2 million a year for her work for the company. In 2010 she was a guest editor for the French Vogue Magazine. Apart from being a successful actress, Cruz also believes in being charitable, donating both money and time to charity. She had donated her salary from her first Hollywood movie to Mother Teresa’s Mission. Cruz married Javier Bardem in early July 2010 after dating him for three years and later gave birth to her first son Leo in 2011.

Today more than 20 percent of the box office takings are generated by domestic films in Spain encouraging the Spanish Government to implement various measures to support local film productions .

This is a authentic Review of one of the Best Zorro movies made – The Mask of Zorro, which was filmed in January 1997 at Estudios Churubusco in Mexico City.

I am a great fan of Zorro and watched many movies similar to this one. But this Classic was outstanding.

Many a young boy’s hero is portrayed by the character of Zorro. Personally I must have watched this movie about four times. This well crafted adventure film had young and old riveted to their seats.

The scene was set against the backdrop of burgeoning California which dated in the early 1800′s.
What was especially noteworthy is that both Antonio and Catherine made the characters their own. Antonio Banderas had such stealth and charm that bowled out everyone watching this eccentric Classic.

Back to the movie – The plot of the Mask of Zorro is similar to movies such as Robin Hood in that there is a well beloved hero that fights for the rights of the poor.

In the case of the Mask of Zorro the Mexican peasants are defended by the masked hero known as Zorro. The action and romance portrayed in this movie is out of this world. You stay on the edge of your seat at all times.

In brief a long dormant de la Vega (Anthony Hopkins) escapes from prison and plans his revenge on Montero (Stuart Wilson) who took his daughter Elena (Catherine Zeta Jones) from him about 20 years ago. He makes use of Alejandro (Antonio Banderas) to take his revenge against Montero.

Alejandro was a thief who showed great admiration for the old Zorro when still a child. He takes Alejandro under his wing and teaches him to be the next Young Zorro. Do not forget the brilliant shiny black horse Toronado that makes for an excellent must see movie with a total running time of 136 minutes.

Oh! Do not forget the fiery Catherine Zeta Jones that added passion and her own charm that made this movie so special. She oozes fire, zeal and passion like no other and made women very proud of her accomplishments. She held her own in showing just what women are made of when she did the sword fighting scenes.

Our main aim is to highlight the contribution Antonio made as a well known Spanish actor. His name at birth was Jose Antonio Dominguez Banderas and he was born at Malaga in Spain on the 10 August 1960. He began his acting career at age 19 and starred in many movies. He was the first Spanish actor to portray the character of Zorro.

Antonio certainly is a stylish and charming man that makes women swoon and sometimes even faint. He is the envy of every man and exudes such confidence unlike any other Spanish actor out there.

To think that the Mask of Zorro encountered some problems when Campbell was hospitalized, which resulted in a temporary set back resulting in a $10 million over budget production.

Nonetheless, the Mask of Zorro was released on July 17, 1998 with great financial success. The budget was in the region of $96 million but the resulting box office takings spiraled to over $250 million.

The Mask of Zorro is a must see for whoever did not have the chance to see this fantastic box office hit.

There must be millions of people around the globe who have attempted to learn a second language and failed. People have the fantastic dream of travelling to a foreign country and having wonderful conversations with the natives in their own language. They embark on the learning process full of determination and confidence but somewhere along the way, the enthusiasm disappears and the books or videos or cd’s gather dust on the shelf.

And now I have to confess that I was one of those people. I had planned to go work in Spain and decided that if I were to do so then learning Spanish first would be a big help. I did not have the option of attending Spanish classes so I bought an expensive home study course consisting of books and cassette tapes (it was a while ago!).

I completed the course but I felt I was little nearer to being able to converse in Spanish than when I had started. A subsequent holiday in Spain where I got the chance to try out my new language skills proved me correct. The problem was I knew how to ask where the nearest supermarket or bus stop was but I had no idea how to interpret the answer. The tapes I had included conversations, but those conversations were very slow and had exaggerated pronunciations, nothing like a real conversation.

The experience was disheartening, but I never lost my interest and bought other books and courses. I would not spend loads of time studying but I did dip in and out fairly often. Then while holidaying in Spain my daughter wanted me to bring her to see the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie and we found a cinema which showed the film in English with Spanish subtitles.

To me it was a road to Damascus moment. My previous efforts were not all in vain because they meant I was able to read the Spanish subtitles without too much difficulty and my vocabulary was good enough to be able to match what I was hearing with what I was reading. I grasped that it is far better to learn how to express ideas with phrases rather than just string words together.

Because that movie is mainly an action movie, the dialogue tends to be in short snippets and it uses language that we encounter every day in normal life. This is presented in normal conversation complete with inaccuracies and sometimes poor structure – just the way we all (well nearly all) speak most of the time. I left the cinema feeling I had learnt more in that 90 minutes or so than I had in months of bookwork.

Now I use DVD’s as my main learning tool. I can watch Spanish movies with Spanish or English subtitles or I can watch English movies with Spanish subtitles and it makes learning enjoyable. I am learning to speak the way native speakers do and I am listening to normal conversation.

Argentina is considered to be the eighth largest country among the Spanish-speaking countries. It is also said to be a major producer of motion pictures and movies, making around 80 films a year. Argentina has created a history in the film industry, as films have been a part of the culture ever since the 19th century.

History of Argentinan Cinema

The first wave of films came between 1930 and 1950, where some of the classic Spanish films of Argentina were produced and this brought many actors into the highlights. The next wave was in the 1980s, which created an international boom for the Argentinan film industry. Nine Queens, Official Story, Southeast, The Secret in their Eyes, and Man Facing are some of the famous films that won awards.

Buenos Aires has some of the most impressive and dramatic theatres in the world. The Teatro Colon is a huge landmark of Argentina. International shows are projected in the Avenida Corrientes, which is a popular theatre.

Learning Spanish Through Spanish Films

Since most of the Spanish movies that are available in DVD format have subtitles, learning Spanish through Spanish Films is quite easy. Perhaps, the most easy and joyful way of learning Spanish is through Spanish films. Let us go through
some reviews of some of the popular movies with subtitles. However, make sure that the movies you borrow are not dubbed but subtitled Spanish movies.

Maria, Ilena eres de gracia (Maria Full of Grace) – This movie portrays a 17-year-old girl who smuggles drugs through her internal organs illegally. Catalina Sandino Moreno plays the role of Maria and has done an excellent job in that role. Through the story, Maria is naïve, scared, smart, faking, and confident. Every role is done enough justice by Sandino Moreno. Joshua Marston has directed and written the scripts of the film and has made every character live the role.

El laberinto del fauno (Pan’s Labyrinth) – This movie has a combination of fiction, history, horror, and fantasy, and is one of the favorites of 2006.

Movies such as Walk in the clouds, My Family, The Perez Family, Roosters, and Desperado speak a lot about Spanish culture.

Famous Actors In Spanish Films

Penelope Cruz has been widely recognized as one of the most famous Spanish actresses of the present. She was born in Madrid, Spain and later entered into the movie world winning the Goya Award, which pars with the Oscars for being best actress. She has the goal of reaching heights that no other actor has ever reached. The movie, which took her to the heights, was ‘Jamon’.

Sara Montiel is another famous actor of the 20th century. She is internationally popular for achieving mega stardom in Europe. She was at the height of her career in the late 20th century, and her movie partnership with Pedro Almodovar made her very successful.

Antonio Benderas is another famous actor who is known internationally, as he has also made blockbuster movies in Hollywood. He came to the limelight during the 90s.

Other actors who have gained recognition at the international level are Fernando Fernan Gomez and Javier Bardem.

Learning Spanish through Spanish films is not a wonder, since Spanish is spoken in 20 countries around the world and is the official language of many countries. Indulging in Spanish culture and activities is another important step to learn Spanish.

Did you know that of all of the Spanish speaking countries, Argentina prides itself on producing some of the most successful films? If you are still wondering then check out some of the most well-known movies that have been produced in the country.

A large maker of motion pictures and films is Argentina. Established mostly in Buenos Aires, the local film industry produces about 80 feature length films a year. In 1917, the world’s first was released by Quino Crisiani a cartoonist. In the 1930s to the 1950s, this patented the beginning of a grand age of film in Buenos Aires with hundreds of productions, which are today, regarded as classic Spanish films. The industry gave rise to actors becoming the first popular public figures of Argentina and many of them went on to become Hollywood actors.

By watching films from the early part of the 20th century you can surely get a great deal of understanding into Latin American cinema history. La Bandera was one of the first famous films in Argentina made by Federico Figner. Eugene Py a French photographer is also credited for producing a few of Argentina’s earliest films including the 1901 La Revista de la Escuadra Argentina and the first documentary in 1900 Viaje del Doctor Campos Salles a Buenos Aires.

In 1980, a second wave of cinema became internationally known; a few of these famous films include, Nine Queens, The Official Story, Southeast, Man Facing and The Secret in Their Eyes. Though these films struggle to contend with Hollywood blockbusters in popularity, Latin Americans produce great Latin American Hollywood actors. Even if these films tend to be low budget, they still earned awards in different film festivals like Cannes.

You will not be at a loss for films to see that have been made in recent years if you love modern films. While over 2500 films have been made in Argentina to date, almost all of these films were, actually, produced in 2004 and 2005.

Latin American movies have a specific flavor to them. Some might even be classed as bizarre. Some people might label them sexy. But you just have to see the Latin American Hollywood actors to see what I mean. Think about Antonio Banderas, Penelope Cruz and Salma Hayek. That said Latin American directors have also made names for themselves in the worldwide movie scene. Like the names of Alexandro Gonzalez Inarritu and Pedro Almodóvar.

But melodic sounding language and good looks aside, Latin American movies with English subtitles have a value about them which goes beyond words. But thanks to the DVD format, we can now adore movies in Latin America with English subtitles, with other languages available.

No wonder that Latin American Hollywood actors are great because of their love and passion when it comes to making a film. By just knowing their fruitful cinema history, you can tell that these people have a great talent when it comes to making great movies that will be hits across the globe.

Spanish actors are known to be beautiful, handsome, extraordinary and full of flair. We all love to see these beautiful people on set and watch them chant the Spanish words. There are very many reasons why we all want to see them in action. The first reason is that though they use Spanish most of the time; they know how to act very well. The second reason is that they have very nice movies and programs. Their love stories are very fascinating and the soaps are slowly winning the hearts of many people around.
There are many Latin American actors who have made a mark in the film industry. I am going to mention some of the famous ones who are known worldwide and are darlings to many.
• Salma Hayek
She has been acting in films and on TV since the late eighty’s. She has made a name for herself both in front of and behind the camera. She has moved from staring in films to directing and producing.
• Antonio Banderas
He is one of the first Latin American actors to ever make it on the big screen. He was born in the town of Malaga in Spain. After injuring his leg, his dreams of being a soccer player were thwarted and he shifted his attention to theatre. The great talent he had caught the eye of famous directors and from there he marched all the way to Hollywood.
• Anthony Quinn
He was born and given the name Antonio Rudolfo Quinn in the town of Chihuahua in Mexico, in the month of April 21, 1916. He was raised in the United States before he became an actor.
• Benicio Del Toro
He is commonly known for his uniquely dark intensity and his idiosyncratic performances. He is one of Hollywood’s most unique actors. He has always wanted to be an actor ever since his childhood days. His family discouraged him from being an actor because they wanted him to become a lawyer. When he won his first role in his first movie called the “the duke faced boy”, he rose to stardom.
• William Levy
He is the new kid on the block in most Mexican soap operas. The model tuned actor has won the hearts of many ladies. Many love him for his sentimentalism in the soaps and always playing the good rich guy always looking for true love. A typical character of what ladies like.
These are just some of the most famous Latin American actors. They have managed to create a name for themselves in the industry. Thy have portrayed many people when it comes to acting and even some of them have been sought after by famous musicians. They have prowess and skill in the field. The common thing about these Latin American actors is that, they went to Hollywood without knowing so much English and now they have learned in order to be able to meet the standards of acting. Catch them on shows and movies, you will surely like them.

More and more Spanish and Latin American actors are starting to make their very own names in the industry today. If you want to get to know them, here are a few of the most popular Latin American actors that have made it big in Hollywood.

Antonio Banderas

Antonio Banderas was one of the very first actors to ever make it big in the silver screen. He was born in Malaga, Spain in 1960. After a leg injury that thwarted his dreams of ever becoming a professional soccer player, he concentrated his attention to theater instead. He devoted 5 years to studying in the prestigious National Theater of Spain. His acting talents eventually caught the eye of director Pedro Almodovar in 1982. Their collaborations have produced a number of great films such as the Labyrinth of Passion in 1986, Law of Desire in 1987 and Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! in 1990.

He made first ever debut in a Hollywood film in 1992 playing as a musician in the movie, Mambo Kings. During this time, Banderas did not speak a word of English and had to learn his lines phonetically. Today, he has an impressive list of films under his name and is considered to be one of the most iconic Spanish actors ever to set foot in Hollywood.

Benicio del Torro

Benicio del Torro has always dreamed of becoming an actor since he was young. His family however, wanted him to become a lawyer and discouraged him from ever getting into the film industry. Intent of fulfilling his dreams, Benicio won his very first role as “Duke the Dog-Faced Boy” in the film Big Top Pee Wee. Following this, the actor supported himself with a number of small movie stints for a few years. In 1995, Benicio del Torro rose into popularity for his performance in the crime drama, The Usual Suspects. The role won him the Best Supporting Actor title in the Independent Spirit Awards.

Over the years, he has written and produced films that were also well received on the silver screen. In 2008, he became the first ever Latin actor to receive the Cannes Film Festival’s the Best Actor Award for his role as Che Guevara in a historical 2-part epic, entitled The Argentine and Guerilla.

Javier Bardem

Javier Bardem was born in March 1969 in the Spanish Canary Islands. He made his very first film debut at the young age of 11, working together with his actress mother, Pilar Bardem. The actor already had an impressive list of local films under his name before he ventured out to Hollywood. Javier Bardem was the first ever Latin actor to receive an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of the exiled Cuban poet, Reinaldo Arenas. The movie required him to speak English with a Cuban accent which was a huge feat for the Spanish actor. His years of hard work finally paid off as he took home the Oscars for playing an assassin in the 2006 film, No Country for Old Men.

Up until today, more and more Spanish and Latin actors are finding their way on to the silver screen and on to the hearts of many film lovers.

The youngest of the three is Mia, a poor mother who wanted to get to the town because she wanted to enter a popular game show played in the city. The other traveler is Roberto, a salesman who was trying to woo a woman living in the town. The oldest of the three is Don Justo Benedictis, an old man who wanted to get back his lost dog which was rumored to be seen around town.

The stories that they share on the road are heartwarming, funny and full of illusions, remorse and yearnings. The movie prides of great performances from mostly non-professional actors and actresses.

Rediscovering the Buenos Aires Film Industry

Today, Argentina is considered as one of the main contributors to the film and motion pictures industry. Buenos Aires, the center of the country’s local film industry, produces an average of 80 motion pictures a year. The very first ever film made locally in Buenos Aires was entitled Quino Crisiani, released in 1917. The release of the film was marked as the birth of the city’s film and theater industry. During the 1930s up until the 1950s, hundreds of films and motion pictures were released, most of which are now considered to be the greatest films ever made in the local industry.

The second era of the Buenos Aires film industry came during the 1980s where more and more local productions started breaking into the international film industry. Films such as Man Facing, Nine Queens, The Official Story and Southeast were the very first films that grabbed international attention and awards from prestigious award-giving bodies. Over the years, more and more films were produced, gaining popularity not only in Buenos Aires but with the rest of Argentina as well.

Films and movie making has become deeply embedded in the country’s culture as well. Today, the Buenos Aires film industry is immensely supported both by the government and its locals. Texas High School Football Hall Of Fame It currently has the highest viewing per capita in the entire region. And up until today, more and more Argentine directors are breaking out into the international film industry.

One of the most famous Argentinean composers that broke out into the international film industry is Lalo Schifrin. Argan Oil This award-winning composer is most known for creating the Mission Impossible theme tune which was also a huge hit in Hollywood.

Apart from that, Buenos Aires also houses one of the most impressive and dramatic theaters in the entire world. One of the best examples is the Teatro Colon which is now a main landmark in the city. Society of Economic Geology 2010 The theater features an acoustic system that is considered to be the best in the world. Today, the government is taking on great measures and efforts to restore and preserve its iconic features.

Another iconic theater in Buenos Aires is the Avenida Corrientes, which is a constant venue of international shows all throughout the year. This is also the area where some of the most famous local artists have sprouted and grown.

Today, Argentina’s film industry is one of the top earning sectors in the country. High profile film festivals such as the BAFICI have also contributed to the status of Argentina’s films. In 2004, the revenues from film and motion pictures alone have risen almost 1000% compared to all the other industries in the country. More and more local films are also gaining international recognition and awards.

As the film industry expanded, the need for proper IP protection became a pressing issue as well. This was formally addressed by movie directors and film makers during a WIPO conference held in Buenos Aires in 2005. The conference’s aim was to offer a more realistic and dynamic approach to IP protection of audio visual works produced within the country. This gave local film makers and other audio visual artists a better understanding of the legal issues involved in IP protection, film subsidies, tax and finance issues and film distribution and access to the international market.

Today Argentinian and Spanish films encompass many topics from fictional stories to informative documentaries on anything from animals to the environment to medical procedures, ageing, resveratrol and even marketing for medical practioners such as chiropractic marketing, dental marketing or even marketing for veterinarians!

Films in Argentina – What You Must Know

The industry of films in Argentina has a very interesting history. This type of industry has been an important part of the culture of this country since the early 20th century. You can get an insight into the language and culture of this country if you study the films in Argentina a little bit.

If you watch the Latin American films from the early part of the 20th century you will get a lot of insight into the history of the cinema in this country. Federico Figner created one of the first important films in the history of Argentina called La Bandera Argentina. The first documentary was made by Eugene Py, a French photographer, and it was called Viaje del Doctor Campos Salles a Buenos Aires in 1900. He also created La Revista de la Escuadra Argentina in 1901.

Music and voice was added to the films in Argentina with the arrival of Movietone in 1933. It was really a major leap in the history of the Argentine cinema. Lumiton and Argentina Sono Film were the first two cinematographic studios created in this country. Tito Lusiardo and Amelia Bence launched their careers in a movie called Dancing in the 1920s. If you want to know how to dance tango, you can watch this film and you will be in the mood. In the early 1940s more than 40 films in Argentina were created per year. A lot of filmmakers remained prolific during this period withstanding plenty of political and religious pressure.

During this time, foreign cinema started infiltrating the films in Argentina. In those years the Instituto Nacional de Cinematografía was created to fund and promote local films in Argentina. Some of the most important films of this period were Pelota de Trapo, Malambro and Historia de una Noche.

In the early 1960s and 1970s the films in Argentina blossomed. These films had a lot of social undertones. The problems of poverty and honest living were featured in a filmed called Laurato Marua in 1961. Sergio Renan produced the film La Tregua in 1974 which won a nomination to The Oscars. Many of these films in Argentina featured nudity and were shocking for audiences.
You will find a lot of quality in the films from Argentina thoroughout its history. It all began in the early 20th century. There was a time when a lot of pressure from politicians and religious people was pushed upon the creators of films in Argentina. But they did not pay attention to all the pressure and continued to produce what the public needed.
